March 2010

I have moved my posts from an old blog to this one and I have moved one month at a time.....I have been blogging far too long to post each one on a separate day. Enjoy the below post for the month mentioned in the tag line.

I got a page done for me finally!

I have made 15 pages this week and this is the first one I can show online because it is mine!  I actually created around 25 total this week, but several still have those "finishing" touches that need to be found first.

For this page I used the new paper from MOXXIE....lots of color, which my son likes....and a few other little embellishments to add to the page.  I didn't finish the journaling because I can't find the sheet with the times and other details for this Cross Country meet, so I will fill that in later.

Dream come true

I bet you thought I forgot about crafting this weekend....wrong.  I have been busy crafting, but it is all work: the card for the upcoming Make & Take for Thursday, our Make & Takes for the craft show on April 10th and pages for sale that will hit the floor this week.  I did take a break from my "work" crafting and do this little card.
Simple card idea from a sketch I came across on the internet.  I got out the new Lotus pendant to play with, so pretty.  Simple layers with a pop-dot to make the layers stand out a bit more.  The flowers and gems top it off.  A cute card for a baby shower or with different words...a birthday card or Mother's Day.

Spring Flowers

Our make & Take yesterday was this combination of orange, purple and teal.
We have been learning a few new things with our Make & Take Thursday's and yesterday's was a twist on the technique from the week before.  With tis one we got to see how the Nestabilities are used as a stencil template.  Check out a future Make & Take for a new technique or use a new tool!  Every Thursday from 11am to 1pm.

Welcome Home

I did a bunch of hand cutting for this one to get the houses and the clouds and rainbow cut out.  The rest is just layering the houses with pop-dots and tape.  I decided to doodle the areas around the clouds and sky.  I haven't done that in a while.

Birthday Birdie

A little more playing with my My Mind's Eye papers and some Just Rite's.

Many Thanks

Bright colors and some glitzy flowers.

I had a hard time photographing this because in the light it was super bright and in the diffused light it seemed dull.  You can see the real life project at the store.
I had this set of papers that I took home to work on for a future project and this was the "discarded" idea.  Since I already had the paper home though, I had to use it for something.  Simple layout with layers.  I sanded off the embossed words on the patterned paper to make them pop a bit more.

FAB 5 Day 4

This sketch flower from My Mind's Eye is so subtly pretty, you don't need a lot to get a pretty card or layout with it.

Deja Vu

I did a card like this a few cards back, but I redid the card and used it for our FREE Make & Take Thursday.
I got a new set of large Just Rita stamps so I had to create a new version of this card.  I used some pretty spring colors and those great COPIC markers...OK, Leann actually did the coloring....I would be addicted SO FAST if I bought some......anyway.......the rest is just layering.

Confirmation

I finally finished the cards for Confirmation.....I just couldn't decide which design to go with....and, not to waste any project already done....I ended up with  three different designs.

Simple design concept.  I just could not nail down the idea...white on blue or blue on white....what to do?  I think my favorite is the middle one, but they all work wonderfully.  Going with the blue and snowy white was my attempt at making a manly looking confirmation invite.  Pink and white would be great too. There are a ton of great metallic colors Picture This.

Forever Young

More My Mind's Eye papers.  They always come up with the cutest collections! Notice the leftovers from yesterday get used again....can't waste a bit of it!

Another simple card, but the little birdies on the My Mind's Eye paper were just too cute to pass up.  There are little umbrellas and stripes on this sheet too. So cute!

Happy Birthday...to me!

I finished another card....and it wasn't even the WIPER card I was planning on.  Sometimes when you are working with stuff you just have to go with the flow.  Stop by the store today and wish me a Happy Birthday.

Simple coloring, layers and fun papers.  The circle around the cake is popped up using pop-dots and then the ribbons run off the sides and around the dot layer.

I love lime green ....I wonder why?....well, time to go eat cake...pancakes.....lol

Little bird love

Since I was playing with Graphic45 yesterday I figured I would put this one together with the blue shades.

I had this bolt of unbleached cotton from a random stack of stuff I had laying around, so I thought, STAMP ON IT...and see what happens.  I like it.  I wish the blue was a little bolder, but I like the look.

Dream a little dream

The new Graphic45 papers are some cool cool papers.  This sheet of Bathing Beauties was a must have for my collection.

I got the scalloped edge on the brown paper by putting it on my Nestabilitie , but only half of it.  I only wanted the scallop edge on part of it and I don't have a simple small scallop punch.  The rest is just distressing and layering.  You don't need a lot when the paper can work for you.

Cross the eyes

I have my new CROSS Collection die set from Spellbinders....yay.  The perfect thing for Confirmation, Baptism, Weddings, or Funerals.  The set comes with four designs that can be used separately or stacked to make a beautiful dimensional embellishment.

I let the paper work for me with the flat look of the cardstock and the metallic shimmer together.
I have to get back to playing, I bought another NESTIE die that I am eager to play with too....

Round and round and round

Ok, this card took forever to make...really.  Well, not really.  I sat in front of the TV fluffing and wrinkling the circles until they were just right...and it seemed to take forever.  I see so many cards these days with this simple flower made of circles.  I have done a few in the past, but thought it would be fun to try again.  I used several sets of circles in my arsenal to get the right sizes, but a set of the small and large Nestabilities circles would have been perfect.  I only own the large set right now and had to make do with the other sets I have.  So basically, wrinkle the paper before you cut (wetting it works great, but takes too long in my opinion to dry...I want it done NOW..lol)) and then glue the pieces together (I used double sided tape) and then wrinkle and wrinkle some more.  I even tore a few edges to get the right look.

I used the scallop edge of the card to place my flowers making a nice frame for the bottom of the card and flower. Oh, and you might notice the same ink rubbing technique from the other days postings....it seemed too white when I left it plain.....I am addicted now....ya can't stop me!

Roughed up

Ah, something a little different.  I got this vintage card set at Picture This a few weeks ago and was waiting for the inspiration to strike...well yesterday it finally did!  The card set is from October Afternoon and has several cute cards in it...a bingo card, vintage school book pages and old readers.  Reminds me of my kindergarten books in school.

I think I had a hard time getting these started because I always just distress stuff with ink and I wanted a different look this time, so I went with the distress tool and kept my inks in the tool box (plus my fingers are still recovering from the last few days of inkyness)!  Then I dug out my little sewing machine and made little holes in the edges....I can't sew with thread, one of the few things that has gotten the better of me...sorry Mrs. Foss, I just never got the hang of sewing :)

So, anywhooooo....I distressed the heck out of the edges and then layered them up, added a few buttons with the string in them and viola' ...you've got a card.  Use it for a note card, birthday card or whatever.  I add my sentiments on the inside later, depending on my need at the time.

Thank You card

I have been waiting for this piece of paper to arrive in the store since I saw the samples at a recent showing.  I just liked the cute applique look of the flowers and the stripes. A close up to show you the glossy shine to the flowers on the paper.

Layers and stripes and more...oh my.

I had a little fun with the layering on this one.  I really liked the glossy flowers on this paper and had to have a sheet.  I hand cut out the flower  and then layered it with the leaves cut form the NESTIES dies.  I used a blender type pen for taking the ink from my ink pads and "coloring" in the little flowers in the stamped image.  From there it was a matter of putting all the little things together to make the card.

To get the red frame around the Labels 5 die I took the die and traced around it with my X-acto knife.  See the second photo for a little example.  I even taped the corners down to keep it in place and removed and cut those spots last.  Then I used a sharp tip scissors to trim away my "mistakes".

Repeat

This is the original attempt at my inking technique from Monday ...the one I messed up...so I thought I should share it too.

Same technique as the other card but using purple and green instead.  I went back and colored over the top stamped image with my Gelly Roll pen to give it a little shimmer.  It shows up pretty well in the light but doesn't change the color of the ink.  The other fun thing I tried on this one is coloring the twill with the inks to match my images.  It was as simple as taking the stamp pad and rubbing it along the ribbon, a green swipe on one side and the purple on the other.  I spritzed it with water to blend the colors a little and then let it dry.  So...my mistake?  When I stamped directly onto the card front I rocked the stamp and got a little of the edge....my fix... I just cut out a Nestabilities shape and covered it up. Not the look I was going for, but it works and I have a bonus card!

Artsy

When I was playing with my margarita stamps yesterday I was planning on making another WIPER card with a birthday theme...but I kinda liked the look of the smudged on ink to color the margarita glasses in and decided to try a different stamp set with the same technique. I will get to that wiper card another day....hopefully :)
The stamps in the STAMPERS ANONYMOUS collection are so pretty.  Not a lot of useful words like "Happy Birthday or Thinking of you " in these sets, but gorgeous images regardless.  I did like the words in this stamp and decided to use it.  It could be used for a note card or a birthday card.  I used the Forest Moss ink to stamp the lower floral image and then took a sponge and rubbed more ink from the same stamp on it, rubbing it in from the sides to give the edges a nice dark shade and then letting up a little as I got towards the middle.  I did the same with the orange florals making sure to stop before crossing over into the green areas so that the colors wouldn't get muddy.  This left a lighter middle between the two shades for a nice sentiment.  I added the little butterflies to the garden for a nice 3D effect.  I got pretty messy with this one...lots of inkyness on my fingers.
